Product Description ?

This is a genuine Hitachi replacement part,it is sold individually.
Switches are commonly replaced parts in power tools.
A switch handles on/off and variable speed functions. They also have a role in electric breaking; they can momentarily reverse electrical polarity. Because switches use mechanical internals, they will degrade and wear out over time, eventually requiring replacement.

Some common signs of a broken or failing switch are:

  • The tool has completely stopped functioning – it will not turn on.
  • The tool operates intermittently, requiring multiple tries to turn on, until eventually it won’t turn on at all.
  • The variable speed function and electric braking aren’t working properly.

30 year old Hitachi mitre saw.
I was surprised a replacement switch for this tool even existed, considering it’s age, but it does and is exactly the right item. It was easy to source and obtain though ereplacementparts.com.

Fixed a $300 tool for just the price of a switch
The hardest part is figuring out how to wiggle the old one out and get the new switch in for my Hitachi slide saw. The ground wire screw had frozen and could not make proper contact. The new switch is flawless.

Replacing the plastic blade guard was a snap! Take the blade off, remove the two phillips head screws and remove the ring holding the blade guard. Take the old one off and put the new one on. Before you do actually take the guard off, look at how the roller arm which operates the guard sits in the slot and how the return spring is replaced as well.
#2 Replacing the switch is even easier. Remove the screws that hold the handle on around the switch, which will expose the switch. Replace it putting the wires back on the new switch exactly where the wires were located on the old switch.

Removed handle cover plate. Disconnected the wires from the existing switch. Removed handle cover plate. Disconnected the wires from the existing switch. The wires had very small screws holding them into the switch. You will need a very thin, small, flat screwdriver. Replaced the switch, reinstalled the switch and handle cover. Rerouting the wires can be a little tricky; try to remember exactly how you took the handle apart.

    Note:
The thumb button does not come with the new switch.
