Lawn mower starter rope would not retract. The retaining gear on the spring was worn and would not make good contact to recoil.

Removed the 3 nuts on the old starter assembly. Lifted the assembly off the mower.
I checked the length of the new rope and it was significantly shorter than my original rope. I was able to remove the old rope, remove the new rope, keeping the assembly wound tight. I placed the old rope into the new spring assembly while the assembly was wound tight. It recoiled nicely and then I attached it to the lawn mower and tighten the 3 screws. Everything went smoothly. It took about 15-20 minutes.

Yet to complete. Seems the starter assembly is hard to fit in the cover and get on the motor. My motor faces front not back and there is a bar making the progress much harder than I originally thought.
