The set plate that holds the battery in place was broken

Leendert - July 13, 2017
Tool Type

Cordless Drill

Difficulty

Medium

Time

30-60 minutes

Tools Used

Screwdriver, Pliers, Power Drill

Tried loosen the screw with phillips screwdriver, but it was oxidated and tough to loosen. Used WD40 without success. Finally I had to drill the head of the screw to be able to remove the broken part and install the new one.
I also had to buy a replacement bolt and nut at a local hardware to fasten the set plate.
If the existing nut and bold were not oxidated, the fix would probably have not taken more than 15 minutes.

Broken feet, rusted clamper for holding sandpaper

Dave - May 22, 2017
Tool Type

Sander

Difficulty

Easy

Time

Less than 15 minutes

Tools Used

Screwdriver, Super glue

First I found the center phillips head screw on the bottom of the sander and
removed it.
Second, I removed all of the phillips head screws that held the feet and the sand paper
clampers in place.
Third, I slowly took the sanding pad away from the sander, exposing the phillips head screws that hold the feet on and I removed those.
Forth, I let the broken feet and rusted sand paper clampers fall out while paying attention to how they were put in.
Fifth, I put each foot onto where it belonged and screwed in the old phillips head screws at the top of the feet. I then added the new clampers loosely under the new feet and began holding everything together in one hand.
Sixth, this sander has a floating element above the sanding pad, a bearing and a big washer to make it vibrate for the sanding, that I had to also put back into place before screwing in the center phillips screw hand but not tightening it.
Seventh, I started installing the old screws to the bottom of the new feet through the sanding pad, this holds the clampers in place too, careful not to tighten anything till I had all the screws in place. Note: I did this repair on a Workshop brand 7.2volt sander using Makita parts.
