Remove any fuel from the tank, then tilt the mower with the air cleaner facing up. Put a heavy duty glove on one hand to hold the blade while removing it. Remove the blade bolt and blade support. Then the blade. Remove the the broken blade adapter, then clean the engine shaft. Place the new adapter on the shaft lining up the key in the adapter and the slot on the engine shaft until it bottoms out. Install the blade, the blade support, then the blade bolt.

Ensure mower gas is empty, turn lawn on side, turn mower blade to line up with grass shoot, place crowbar on correct side of shoot to brace blade, use 5/8 socket to remove Hex bolt, remove blade and blade support, remove blade adapter, install new blade adapter using slot, place blade on blade adapter lining up the blade in the x key, place blade brace on blade lining pins with holes in blade, install hex bolt and tighten after placing crow bar on opposite side of grass shoot to brace the blade to keep the blade from spinning. Tighten to correct ft lbs as instructed. Turn mower on all 4 wheels, fill with gas and go! .

1. Disconnected spark plug.
2. Attempted (unsuccessfully) removal of blade adapter using gear puller.
3. Resorted to side grinder with cutoff blade, cutting adapter into 3 pieces.
4. Sanded crankshaft to remove rust.
5. Applied bearing grease to help prevent more rust.
8. Installed new adapter obtained from eReplacementParts.com.
9. Installed new blade without any additional complications.

1. Lean mower over on its left side.
2. With a pair of garden gloves on hold the blade firmly with one hand
3. With the other hand use a rachet wren or nut driver to remove the 15mm bolt
4. One bolt is remove the blade and adapter will come off
5. Installation is reversedoing.
After kit install no more flying debris :)

Removed blade and blade attachment kit with wrench, rubber mallet, and socket wrench. When blade attachment kit breaks or is worn, it can be difficult to remove the bolt and plate. As I am much older now, I don't have the strength to remove the bolt with just a wrench or socket wrench; that is why I use a rubber mallet. Works for me.
