This is a genuine Black and Decker replacement part, it is sold individually.
The 244631-00 works in conjunction with the 598083-00 Prefiter.
It will collect the dust and debris that the Prefilter was not able to gather.
It will catch the dust and small debris from entering the motor and damaging it.
Once this filter becomes dirty and clogged it should be discarded, and replaced with a new one.

Remove the bowl from the vacuum and remove the filters. Install the prefilter first then the secondary filter. Replace the bowl and your done.

The replacement was per the manual. The parts were not available at my local hardware store and I was glad to be able to get them through ereplacement. The website for ordering was easy to use and navigate. The diagram of the vaccuum indicating the various parts made it easy to pick out what to order. A real plus as many websites are hard use. .
