took the sander apart to get to both bearings on the motor. used a puller to pull bearings off shaft. put it back together. The reason I fixed this sander is its one of the old 1/2 sheet vibrator sanders that you can't buy anymore, but I use them a lot for my wood working projects.

Question: Pad On Porter-Cable Sander Type ...

gac1425

The felt pad on my Porter-Cable Heavy duty sander (Type 1) has come unglued to the metal backing plate. Can I just glue it back on. If yes what type of glue should be used.
WJA
Hello gac1425,

You may want to try some rubber cement. Apply some on the felt pad then on the metal pad. Wait a little while and then press them together. You may want to put some weight on it and let it dry completely. If the doesn't work we always have the 846456 Sander Pad (Felt Pad With Metal Backing Plate) in stock.

Question: Sander Pad

arn4art

how do tell if i have a felt or foam pad
WJA
Hello arn4art,

The differences between the two pads available for the 505 Sander is. The part number 846456 is a gray felt pad that you use the clamps on the front and back of the sander to hold the sandpaper on. The part number 13598 is a black foam pad that accepts adhesive backed sandpaper. Both of the pads have a metal backing on them.

Hope this helps,
