Coffee Maker: Controls or Buttons Don't Work Right

Are the buttons not working right on your coffee maker? It is most likely the knob or switch that is causing the problem. Once you have inspected these two parts, read on for information on how you can diagnose the issue yourself. Refer to your owner's manual for detailed instruction for your model.

Knobs
Knobs
Your coffee maker buttons may not respond to commands because of an issue with the exterior knobs. Knobs engage with the switches in a number of ways. If the knob has become damaged, it might not work with the switch, even though the switch inside the coffee maker is functioning fine. To check the knob or button, remove the plastic outside cover of the unit. Check to see if the knob is simply misaligned, or is damaged and needs to be replaced with a new part.

If your coffee maker doesn’t respond to commands when you push buttons on the exterior, it could be an issue with the switch, also known as the control board, input board, or micro switch. To access the control board, flip the coffee maker over and remove the plastic cover. You will need a screwdriver to loosen the screws holding the cover in place, and also the parts inside. Check your manual to find the location of the control board within your unit, and which wires are connected to it. The motherboard is likely held in place with a bracket and screws, and will have a wire connection assembly that needs to be detached in order to install the new one.
