How to Replace the Dust Bag on a DeWALT Sander

DeWalt Sander Dust Bag

Problems keeping the dust down when you sand? You might need a new dust bag. The dust bag assembly is made up of a mounting bracket that attaches the assembly to the sander, the cloth bag (which filters dust out of the air), a mounting ring (that allows the bag to be easily removed for emptying), and a spring that supports the bag (for more effective dust collection).

There are several spots on the dust bag assembly that can fail: The fitting (where it attaches to the sander) will sometimes crack. This can be caused by dropping the sander or hitting it against something. The plastic clips may break. There is also an O-ring on the fitting itself. If this O-ring is broken or missing, you may get some dust leaking back, and the bag may not fit tightly. With years of use, the internal spring can wear through the bag, causing it to leak.

Let's get started.

REMOVING THE DUST BAG   1. Remove the dust bag.

a. Pull the dust bag assembly away from the sander.

INSTALLING THE NEW DUST BAG

  2. Install the dust bag.

a. Slide the new dust bag onto the sander.
