An easy repair. Rather straight forward. 6 screws to remove, maybe 7. Replace the shaft assembly and reassemble. Very easy. I now have an operating saw for $35 (including shipping) instead of $100+ for a new one. Only a few (3 or 4) to mine.

It was an easy fix ,removed a few screws ,removed the cover and shaft .Reinstalled in reverse order. I did have to modify the cover to get the new blade lock assembly through it but other than that no problems and the lock and shaft work just fine .

Remember to add new grease to the shaft .

, T20 and T25 bits to remove and remount 10 screws

    1. Opened up saw and remove original reciprocating arm and blade attachment head.
    2. Installed replacement arm and head.
    3. Realized new head was too large for original saw case to fit on the saw. My saw was an early model with a small one direction blade mount head. The replacement provided in the kit enables mounting the blade in 4 possible orientations, but the new head is larger than the part replaced.
    4. Decided to buy new saw case with the properly sized hole for $12 rather than enlarge hole in the original case. Wish I understood this issue when I bought the new arm kit. But the second wait time was worth it because the new case makes the saw look brand new.
    5. After waiting for the 2nd shipment to arrive. The new case was installed and the saw was completely repaired and the blade mounting was much improved over the original design.

First let me say that the part for my saw (DW303M pn 5140006-35) was listed as Obsolete/discontinued.
I found that the part for the (DW304P pn302139) is basically the same part.
The only difference is that the shaft for the DW303M has only one position for the blade that is vertical with the saw.
The DW304P has two slots for the blade to fit both Vertical and Horizontal.
Lucky that I had both of these saws and was able to compare before I purchased the part for the DW304P to fit my DW 303M saw.
I only wish that they would have had a foot note stating that there was an alternative part. This would have saved me some time. Other than that the replacement was very easy. Don't forget to grease it well while you have it apart.

The Shaft had excessive play due, to worn Bearing, causing difficulty when changing Blades.

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, T-20 & T-25 Torx Driver

Removed head on saw using Phillips head Screw Driver and T-20 Torx Driver. Removed Rubber Grip by sliding it off the end of the Saw exposing the cover that that holds the Shaft and Bearing in place. Used T-25 & T-20 Torx Drivers to remove cover, replaced shaft and Bearing, lubricated with grease and installed new parts in reverse order. Be careful to put the screws in the correct location. The two screws that hold the cover down over the bearing are shorter than the rest. If wrong screws are used, they will not tighten down on the cover. This could cause the Bearing to have excessive movement and wear. .
