Screwdriver, Adjustable Wrench, pipe wrench

Take off handle on old wand
Unscrew old wand from handle assembly (I had to use a pipe wrench)
lubricate threads and screw in new wand
reattach the handle to the wand

Unscrew the old one, screw in the new and you are done. I had been struggling with this problem since I bought the unit over 10 years ago. Should have replaced it sooner.
