Platen was broken around the central bushing indentation causing excessive vibration.
Removed 4 screws from the bottom of the sander holding the the platen and cover plate. Removed both the cover plate and platen. Took spring clamps off the broken platen and placed them on new platen (they pressed into place with the help of a screwdriver). Put new platen and cover plate back on sander and replaced 4 screws. Took about 5 minutes and sander now works like new!!

Small plastic part of platen broke into several pieces.
1. I removed 4 screws holding the rubber sanding pad and removed it.
2. Removed metal brackets that hold sand paper. Pay attention to how they fit into their grooves.
3. I then removed old platen and replaced it with new one.
4. Put metal brackets back in place. This was a struggle at first. They just didn't seem to want to fit, but I found that placing the rubber pad on top held them in place.
5. I was then able to screw the pad back on and everything works great.
