With the old spool retainer and return spring removed it was just ... Read more a simple matter of placing the new return spring in place, then pushing the new spool retainer into place using the small screwdriver again to insure the two spool retainer locking tabs snapped into their respective locking slots by gently pressing on them from the inside of the spool retainer into the locking slot...
The whole operation took place in less than 5 minutes...!
The retainer spring had broken and needed to be replaced.

Broken spool retainer
