This is a very simple fix that took about a minute or less to perform. Pinch the \"Retainer Clip\" together and pull straight out. Replace with the new clip, attach spool and get trimming.

** If the Retainer Clip shears off in the drive shaft, use a small standard (Flat Head) screw driver and work the clip out from one side. Once enough of the clip is exposed, use a pair of needle nosed pliers and remove the clip. Replace it with a new one and get back to work!

Once the repair parts were received, it was just a matter of using a small standard blade screwdriver to push the two locking tabs of the spool retainer inward, then grasping the retainer with pliers and removing the old spool retainer then the return spring...

With the old spool retainer and return spring removed it was just a simple matter of placing the new return spring in place, then pushing the new spool retainer into place using the small screwdriver again to insure the two spool retainer locking tabs snapped into their respective locking slots by gently pressing on them from the inside of the spool retainer into the locking slot...

The whole operation took place in less than 5 minutes...!

I removed the cutting spool and pulled the broken spring out. The new spring went back where the broken one had been. The string trimmer now works as it should. The other parts are spares for down the road repairs.
