Trimmer head wore out.

James from Ellenburgh Center, New York

Difficulty Level:
Easy
Total Repair Time:
Less than 15 mins
1. Take the knob, string reel and spring off of the trimmer.
2. Keep the spring if you didn\'t purchase a replacement.
3. Remove the star retaining washer by cutting or prying it off the shaft.
4. Remove the outer housing and clean the shaft then install the new housing and push on the net retaining washer. A deep 1/2\" or 9/16 socket works well for pushing the washer into place.
5. Reload spool and reassemble with the spring, spool and knob. Now get to work.

Total Repair Time:

Tools:
Pliers
Parts Used:

I removed the old worn out bump knob with the pliers and pulled out the old worn out inner reel and put the replacement parts I got from Replacement Parts.com right on my trimmer. Everything fit perfectly and the new inner reel had the line divider which makes it easier for the line to feed out when needed. I am satisfied with my purchas e and the price! Instead of getting a new trimmer for $100 I spent $30 and I\'m trimming away again!:)

I simply took off the old shaft and replaced it with the replacement one, I did have to use another bolt, the old one wasn\'t long enough to hold the shaft. Once in place I installed the newer inner real, the old shaft was getting so hot it melted the one I had bought before, must of been a bearing problem. The trimmer is working better then when I bought it, thanks, you all rock.

Removed and replaced the throttle housing assembly that included a new throttle trigger and on/off switch. Very easy to remove the old and replace with the new. Be careful when feeding the wires and throttle cable through the assembly hole to keep them from binding once the assembly is screwed back on. The bump head inner reel and knob w ere simple to replace. Just thread fresh line onto the head and install. Everything worked fine.
