It is this square hole that restrains the screw and keeps it from turning when the nut is tightened. This screw is made of high-quality metal and is sold individually. A wrench might be needed to replace this hardware.

Hello Mary, thank you for your question. Our research shows the Upper handle as 749-05084B-0637 and the Lower handle as 749-07298-0637. The Handle knob 720-0279. The Carriage screw 710-04998. We hope this helps.

handle wing screw melted to the carriage bolt, not allowing for removal.

I removed the wing screw from the handle by hack sawing through the old wing knob. Then plied off the plastic from the carriage bolt, and installed the new handle wing knob securely clockwise. I figured the carriage screw threads had probably smoothed over after repeated removal in the past. The wing knob wouldn\'t allow me to unscrew t he bolt. That is why I needed the hack saw.

Ordered the exact replaceny parts...inserted the threaded carriage bolt through 2 pieces of lawnmower handles..lined up the bolt and screwed the threaded handle on. Tightened handle hand tight only.
