Product Description

This Riken piston ring set is an OEM part direct from Honda. The three-piece, metal ring set is compatible with many Briggs & Stratton small engines. Secured to the piston, this component helps to provide a seal for the piston and cylinder. A screwdriver, socket set, pliers and a wrench set are often necessary for the installation.

Knocking noise and stuck exhuast valve on Honda GCV 160 engine

Parts Used:: 90551-ZE0-000, 14441-Z0J-000, 13200-ZL8-000, 13010-ZL8-003

Engine would not start, found stuck exhaust valve and broken rocker arm. Was then able to start engine, but then had knocking noise. Tore down engine and found play in connecting rod assembly where it connected to crankshaft. Replaced connecting rod assembly, new rings, honed out cylinder and replaced rocker arm. Cleaned all parts. ... Read more r />
After reassembly, did not have any compression, found adjustment out on the rocker arms, was keeping exhaust valve open a little, not allowing compression to build up. Adjusted, then after two or three pulls, engine started.

With the timing belt, it is important to make sure that is reassembled correctly to have valves timed properly. Found a video on youtube that explained how to do that.

Rings wore out

Nutdriver, Screw drivers, Wrench set

Parts Used:

14711-ZL8-000, 12310-Z8A-000, 14721-ZL8-000, 13010-ZL8-003

1. Prep engine for work. (drain oil, remove trim, remove from mow deck, etc)
2. Remove valve cover
3. Open crankcase
4. Remove flywheel with puller (try to mark locations on timing belt)
5. Remove crankshaft and piston (lose markings on timing belt)
6. Remove valve rockers and Springs then valves
7 ... Read more . Order new parts and wait for them to come
8. Install new valves and Springs and rockers (using online diagrams for exact part locations)
9. Install new rings on piston.
10. Install piston using recently purchased ring compressor
11. Install crankshaft
12. Refer to Internet for timing (quite simple)
13. Reinstall flywheel
14. Put rest if motor back together as best I can.
15. Try to figure why choke isn\'t working like should, no luck
16. Put in oil and gasoline and celebrate when it fires up and runs.
