Product Description ?

O-rings are designed to contain thousands of pounds of pressure by creating a seal between two or more parts. O-ring measurements are defined by the inside diameter and the thickness.

There are many causes for O-Ring failure, such as pressure, friction, temperature or chemicals. The most common are:

  • Extrusion and Nibbling
  • O-ring has ragged, tattered edges. These are commonly caused by pressure spikes which shear off tiny “bites” from the o-ring, or caused by clearance gaps.
  • Abrasion
  • One or both sides of the o-ring appear rough and slightly flattened. Commonly caused by a contact surface that is too rough, contains grit or is too smooth to allow lubrication.
  • Over Compression
  • O-ring is flattened on both sides and may have a “ring” split along its length. Commonly caused by excessive pressure or heat.
  • Heat Hardening
  • O-ring has a pitted or cracked surface, and often is flattened on both sides. Caused by temperature exceeding o-ring capacity.
  • Weather/Ozone Cracking
  • O-ring is covered in small surface cracks. Caused by exposure to ozone, UV rays and air pollution. Excessive seal stretching causes similar cracking.

    Questions & Answers for O-ring

I have a PC finish nailer (model DA250B). Upon removing the top cap (secured by four black screws) I turned it over and found that there is a plastic seal (nearly clear) that broken (did not need to remove any other parts to see this seal/ring). Which part number is this? (904749 ?). Thank you.

I was using the stapler when suddently there was a large air leak from the gun. .

I used an allen wrench to open the stapler (removed the 4 retaining screws) and found an obviously broken/shattered o-ring. I looked for a replacement part on the website and ordered it. The replacement was easy. My only suggestion would be to absolutely clean out any remaining o-ring parts in the stapler prior to re-installing the new o-ring. Once the new o-ring is seated, it's very difficult to remove it to allow you to remove any bits of the old o-ring that are still left.

Sudden fail in nailer with constant heavy air leaking from the top rear crown area. Result was not enough pressure to fire the nailing pin.

    Glove up. (Nitrile/Latex)
Carefully removed crown cap via 4 allen screws being mindful not to allow the spring load to force and further damage.
Inspect piston chamber for wear and adequate oiling.
Remove piston cap and O ring. (probably yellow to orange in color)
Thoroughly clean all exposed areas and RE oil.
Firmly place new O ring in place. Working with one finger around the groove while holding one side down with a thumb. It wont look like it suppose to fit, but it does.
To make things easier, you may want to completely pull the piston cap off of the crown cap.
Keep in mind the additional O rings, and placements.
Once in place, properly and moderately oil with suitable tool oil and gently push back into place while hand tightening the screws back into place.
1/8 to 1/4 turn past hand tight should be sufficient to reseal the crown into place.
Test at 30 psi and gradually increase to confirm seals before testing the firing pin.
Few more drops of oil into the chuck load and you should be complete.

Recommend full replacement of O rings and thoroughly cleaning entire unit during this repair. Highly likely all rubber O rings are failing and could probably use a blunt file to the firing pin.
Afterward it will feel like a BRAND NEW TOOL for under 20 bucks. Certainly is better than having to buy a new one at over 100!!!

Remove the top cap, exposing the underside of the piston set-up. The damaged o-ring was obvious, and the new o-ring slid easily into place. Replace the top cap and tighten the screws evenly.

Removal of the cap (4 internal hex cap screws) revealed a broken O-ring. There was a gasket under the cap. I ordered the most likely parts to wear or leak. No other tools were required to disassemble enough to replace the piston seal, and another O-ring in the cap. I lubricated the O-rings and piston seal with Vaseline. After reassembly, the nailer performed like new.

Big endorsement for ereplacementparts.com. They had the parts to keep this tool in operation.
