must remove upper handle from right side / disconnect digital readout/ slack wires out of handle/ will seperate from housing.Take a long screwdriver and slide the internal brush pole leads off. Do not remove spindle/ take a dead blow hammer and gently tap housing while applying a pulling force to remove damaged housing. Disconnecting the crimped wires is not neccessary if you have pulled the slack towards the left of your saw. Once the housing and windings are seperated/ their are two long screws that hold the motor to the housing that must be removed. Take care to mark the dust ring position as it will be difficult to re-assemble if the wireing notch is not correct. I recommend having a helping hand during dis-assembly to apply the pulling force while tapping the windings off.You will most likely still have to forcibly remove windings by pulling inside of the armature a little side to side until it breaks free of the old housing. Do not pay attention to the color of you brush leads as the replacement part is opposite original for some reason. It will not affect the direction of rotation in any way.
Push armature and windings inside of your new housing until it seats but use some alignment rods to line up the two long screw slots when putting back together or you will find it impossible to align. If you are just a little off/ you can take a pair of bent needle nose plyers to shift armature by pinching one screw hole bore and twist in the direction needed. It is a tight fit.
Put dust ring back in housing on top of the armature properly and secure with the two longest screws before pushing motor back together. You will need to make sure dust shield is aligned properly to allow wires to pass through and will need to use a dead blow hammer gently to tap new housing and armature assembly to properly seat. Good luck.
I don't know what hitachi service would charge for this job- but it is probably worth it to let them do it unless you are familiar with motors.
