Bad bearings, bad brushes, missing handle.

2. Removed the motor armature.
3. Removed the bearings from the armature.
4.Replaced the bearings on the armature.
5. Cleaned the brush housing by removing the brushes and using compressed air cleaned the brush housing and replaced the brushes.
6. Cleaned the inside of the housings and reassembled them.
7. Installed the missing grip.
8 Installed a new grind disk and tested.
9. Worked like a new one and the brushes did not spark a lot nor did the bearings vibrate and squeal.
Brushes on buffer were worn out, and handle broke.

1. Remove the end cap at the cord end.
2. Lift the brush spring off the brushes and extract and inspect the brushes. Looked good.
3. Remove 4 screws holding the gear case to the body, and pull the head and armature out.
4. Remove the nut hoding the spur gear on the armature and pull it from the case. The armature had small black holes in the windings where the smoke escaped. Inspect the field windings. Check for shorts between the wires and the case. None found. Looks like a good candidate for repair.
Order the parts (armature). Wait a few days for shippment, ressemble in reverse order.
Plug it in and look for more smoke. None found. Great inexpensive repair.
I needed a replacement handle and had lost the wrenches needed to change discs easily.
