Manual diagram part number 34, had failed in a black and Decker 3103 type 101 ,2 speed reciprocating saw. The old gear was completely stripped in one spot.

I opened up the saw with a Phillips screwdriver. I removed the retainer plates and the push arm assembly. I pulled the old gear out rinsed out all grease. Put new grease in put the new gear in packed it with grease installed thrust ring packing it with grease to and reassembled the saw. In reverse of taking it apart.

Removed the housing and oscillating arm and gear and bearing, greased the gear area and replaced gear and bearing, Reinstalled the oscillating arm and housing and tested unit. Worked fine!

Taking the unit apart was easy, just keep screws in order that they come out. Take a picture of where the internal part are located. Most time consuming step was cleaning out the old grease from the gear box,and of course add new gear grease.The whole change over was easier then I thought, and was better then buying a new saw
