Fuel leaking from crankcase, engine races at idle
Had to disassemble Poulan leaf blower, down to piston. Attempted to remove crankshaft from casing. It was stuck on bearing, so I had to hit it with hammer, several times, to break it loose. Oil seal came out easily, along with bearings. Used hammer and socket for support, to evenly drive in new oil seal. Reinstalled both bearings, as they were still good. Reassembled with new gaskets purchased. I must admit, I forgot to order one gasket that was on a different print, and rather than order one, and wait a week for delivery, I just made one from gasket material. It was a simple gasket, so it was easy to make. Cut it out with a razor knife. I could hardly believe the blower started on the second pull. No fuel leak anymore, and it now idles normally. Apparently the bad seal was leaking air also into the fuel mix, leaning out the engine. Stopping the leak, put the air/fuel mixture back to normal again. In all, the job took a morning to complete. It would of went much faster, but I was timid about pounding hard on the crankshaft, out of fear of cracking the aluminum crankcase casting. They always come apart much easier in the videos, rather than real life.
