Fuel Leak
The fuel line and filter, primer and hose assembly, and the fuel return line had deteriorated over time and were leaking fuel. I found the parts here and ordered them. When the parts arrived, I removed four screws from the rear cover on the engine, pulled off the old hoses and put the new ones on. I screwed the rear cover in place and was done in about 30 minutes or less.

Replaced fuel filter and small section of line..
Removed the old line and filter by just pushing back up in the tank. I use a large needle with 15lb. fishing line and thread through the end of the fuel line then tie a knot. Run the fishing line through the hole, then I pull the fuel line with the filter already inserted in the line through the hole in the fuel tank. When the filter gets to the hole I pull on the line while pressing on the filter with a plastic pry tool until the stem of the filter is all the way through the hole. Once in place I slide the plastic washer over the fuel line and the filter stem locking it in place. Put everything back together, fill with fuel and check for leaks, then run.

I had a Ryobi weed trimmer that i took to two shops for a tune and replace old fuel lines...both shops recommended i buy a new one as the cost of repairing the item was going to likely run $90-$120 and it was pointed out to me that i could buy a new one for $120...after figuring what parts i needed it cost under $50 and my time (1 hour).

Watched a YouTube video on replacing fuel lines and general tune up...looked up my brand/model on ereplacementParts.com and they had all the parts listed for any repair i might have...i selected the parts mentioned in the video and paid for them in the easy check out... they were delivered within a couple days...I watched the video again and re-assembled my parts and the trimmer started right up...the next day i was trimming about an acre of weeds n grass..

This was my first time using ereplacementParts.com. For me everything went great..i highly recommend them to anyone trying to repair your own equipment...

Question: Difference Between Fuel Line &am...

1438729

Can you tell me the difference between these two fuel filter lines:

This fuel line & filter

Craftsman Fuel Line Assembly
Part Number: 791-682039

They have the same part number.

I ordered this fuel line and filter (791-682039) for my Ryobi 700r 2-Cycle Gas Trimmer but the plastic end of the fuel filter is to big and doesn't fit through the fuel line hole in the fuel tank. There is no way to have the fuel filter seat against the inside tank wall.

My old fuel line and filter had a tapered plastic part on the end of the filter that the fuel line attach to. That fit without force whereas the new one I received doesn't.

I'm wondering if the Craftsman 791-682039 fuel line assembly has the smaller tapered plastic piece on the bottom of the fuel filter to which the fuel line attaches?

Any help you can give would be most appreciated!
The fuel filter lays on the BOTTOM of the fuel tank at the opposite end of where the fuel lines ENTER the tank. It is weighted to keep it from floating in the fuel. Home Depot has a Ryobi Trimmer fuel line kit, including the filter which will probably fit your machine. IF NOT, they have a low priced Universal fuel line kit that will.

Question: Fuel Filter

fla2az2tn

Can i purchase just the filter, I have the fuel line? If yes, whats the part# please? thanks
WJA
Hello fla2az2tn,

It looks as if the only way the manufacture supplies the filter is by ordering the part number, 791-682039. I could not locate the filter sold by itself.

Question: Fuel Line Connection @ Filter Pe...

TonyT

I am needing to know if the fuel line that connects to the filter pictured above passes into the tank then threads the nipple of filter. I have leak here and at first sight i thought there may have been a bond between the plastic washer pictured here as well and the tank now i see this seems as if the line has lost durability and slipped through the hole of the tank.
WJA
Hello TonyT,

After time fuel lines will deteriorate, and will need to be replaced. We have an article and video on How to Replace Fuel Lines.

Question: Fuel Line Uses?

thedodgeguy67

Will this line work for the return line and the intake line from the tank and the primer to carburetor line? Or are the three of them all different sizes? I am repairing a Ryobi 775r string trimmer.
WJA
Hello thedodgeguy67,

As I remember the line are different sizes. So to make sure you get the correct ones, they are 791-683974B Primer and Hose Assembly, and 791-682039 Fuel Line Assembly.

Question: More On Fuel Line Diameter

1117171

my original fuel line is black and relatively thin - about 1/8". The line that came with the replacement kit is considerably thicker, about 3/16", although the ID of the line appears close to that of the original. With the replacement line being 50% larger than the original, there is no way I can thread it into the gas can. Is there a thinner replacement line available or do I have to drill a larger hole through the tank? If so on the drilling, any recommendation on drill bit size?
WJA
Hello 1117171,

You may have received the wrong item recheck the part number on the package against what you ordered. You should not have to change the diameter of the hole in the tank to make it fit. Just to make sure, check your model number and the 11 numbers that follow it. They have made changes on some with the same model number, with the 11 numbers following it different.

Question: How To Use The Washer

1085401

Hello, needed some clarification on the included washer. Is this just supposed to be a spacer or is it wedged over the fuel somehow?
Question: Fuel Line Connection To Fuel Tan...

hubble

As a futher clarification, there are two fuel lines coming off of the bottom of the fuel tank. One is connected to a fuel filter that sits inside the fuel tank, the other just connects to the bottom of the fuel tank. It is the 2nd of those two (not connected to the filter) that has come disconnected and has no apparent means to reconnect to the fuel tank.
See my comment below. It shouldl stay in place by the tightness of fit if you use 3/16" dia.
Question: Fuel Line Connection To Fuel Tan...

1064930

The fuel line below the fuel tank has come loose. There is only a hole in the bottom of the fuel tank that is a smaller diameter than the fuel line with no means (no tit or connection device) to reconnect the fuel line. Is there a loose part I need between the fuel line and the fuel tank to get them reconnected?
Question: Gas Line OD

peanut

What is the OD of the fuel line? I measured 5/32" but everybody has either 1/8 or 3/16".
You want to use 3/16"...it will be a tight fit. I found it easier to insert by cutting an angle on the end and putting a tiny amount of vaseline on the tip and use a twisting motion....it only needs to be inside the tank about 1/2 to 3/4".
Question: Fuel Line Replacement 790r

1050164

The filter and hose fitting inside the tank fell loose inside the tank. Should this part be glued to inside of tank or there an easier way to replace?
Question: Ryobi Trimmer Model 725r

acarmel

The fuel assembly kit is essentially a plastic post and round filter that sits in the bottom of the gas tank. The post attaches to a fuel line.

How do you get the plastic post "seated" into the hole in the bottom of the fuel tank. It is impossible to reach it and apply any downward pressure. If you try to pull on the fuel line (from outside the bottom of the tank), you just pull the tubing off the plastic post.

Is there some tool for this?

Thanks.
trim the old tubing off as close as you can to the tank. There will be enough nipple contact to connect the new line. Just make sure the line is the correct size or it wont grip it. As a trick, to make sure a line will stay, is to buy a smaller diameter line, cut an angle on it, spray it with carb cleaner (softens it) then press it on. When the cleaner evaporates, it will not come off unless cut off. Hope this helps!
Question: Fuel Line

hthuseman

What is the small plastic piece that is sliced half way in the center of the fuel line for?
Often times it is used as a quick connect. Rather than replacing the complete fuel line if the unit has to be worked on, a splice connector will be used to save time in repairs. Hope this helps!
It is used to make carb repairs easier. Oftentimes, fuel lines crack with age when the carb is being serviced. So, to make it easier, a plastic quick connect is used so that the carb can be disconnected and serviced without threatening the rest of the fuel lines that go to the rest of the machine. I hope this helps.
Question: Fuel Line

RonnieJ

Does this line seal into the hole in the gas tank?
mine leaks and not sure what seals it with the tank
UtahAV
Hi RonnieJ,

The line does seal against the tank. The line's OD is slightly larger than the hole in the tank. The line forms its own seal to the tank. The old line has probably become hard and brittle with age. This will cause the line to no longer seal and the tank to leak.

I hope this helps,

-UtahAV
-Mark
Hello Ronnie,
I agree with Mark. However, sometimes it can be a real pain to rethread the new lines. I have seen something else done in this regard that has worked for those who dont have the tools or know how. J-B Qwik, sold at most stores will provide a secure bond around the aperature of the tank entry point, pending the rest of the lines are not cracking too. While I dont recommend this myself, it has worked for others. Be careful!
How far do I need to insert the return fuel line into the tank??
WJA
Hello DanW,

The return fuel line just needs to be inserted in to the tank about 1 inch.
Question: Fuel Line

gdummann

I have lost the pice that conets the fuel line to the gas tank wich part is that?
it's the in tank fuel filter.
