Mower sat for 2 years. Gaskets leaked, carburetor clogged, engine ran extremely rough.
Removed gas tank, air filter and filter housing to expose carburetor. Removed carburetor and disassembled cleaning all parts with carb cleaner. Scraped remainders of old gaskets off carb with chisel, and steel wool until clean. Use compressed air to blow out any remaining dirt. Installed new gaskets for intake and air cleaner and reassembled with new bowl. Replaced fuel line as well while I was in there and gas tank was off. Screws purchased were to secure gas tank (original ones were lost at some point during the tear down). As far as special instructions, just be sure gaskets are properly aligned before reassembly, and that remnants of old gaskets that were removed are completely cleaned off. Be careful not to over tighten anything, especially the bolts that secure the air filter housing.

Snapped rope and pulley spring.
Initial problem was snapped rope& pulley spring. Decided to do other maintenance like cleaning carb well, draining & cleans gas container, air filter, general over-all cleaning of motor, replacement of pulley spring assembly.
Started by removing exterior housing, air filter holder, carb float bowl, gas tank and old pulley/spring assembly.
Replaced old pulley spring assembly and new rope.
Re-assembled unit, adjusted idle.
Good as new ! No problems.
Had 2 units to repair - similar except one replaced non- Autochoke carb
Doing your own maintenance on simple engines like these are a snap and saves many $s. Just need right tools and be willing to get hands dirty and an easy place to get replacement parts.

The item was shipped in the wrong size package
Well whoever put the Briggs and Stratton box inside the shipping package chose the wrong kind of package. They used a yellowish padded envelope to try and save money but wasn't thinking about the part that was being shipped. There was a float bowl in there. They should have used a box instead. The Briggs and Stratton box was crushed and destroyed due to somebody trying to save money and using the wrong size shipping package which was to small.
