Product Description ?

This is a genuine Ridgid part which is designed for use with random orbit sanders. The fan is an important component of the dust collecting system. Sanding dust is drawn up through the holes of the sanding disc and collected in the dust bag during sanding. It is a high-quality replacement for a missing or a damaged item that was installed on a new unit. One durable metal fan is included. Check the diagrams for your model to ensure the correct installation of the new component. You will need a screwdriver to take the housing apart in order to perform this repair.

Works, once you get the old shaft out
The previous owner broke the shaft off I had to remove it from the motor shaft. Once I got it seated properly it worked great.

Fan shaft broke, caused a loss of power and burning smell

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, Nut splitter, hammer

The sander came apart easily enough (with a star head driver). Just keep taking apart the layers. The trick was that the shaft of the fan was broken off, and firmly on the main shaft of the motor. It required a nut splitter to get it off the main shaft. Then there was the matter of pressing the fan back into the bearing. I didn't have a press, but a bit of hammer work with a block of wood worked fine.

Then it was a matter of putting everything back together - and good to go.
