Unplug machine. Remove dust collection shoot. While facing the front of machine, remove two small sheet metal screws at top right corner and opposite rear corner near the crank. Raise side panel approx. 1/8 th of an inch and pull bottom of panel outward to remove panel. You will be able to see both belt pulleys clearly. Install belt onto the first two grooves of the small pulley and while holding it in place install the the belt onto the first two grooves of the large pulley. You can then "walk" the belt onto both pulleys one groove at a time. You may have to turn the blade mount a little to assist in "walking" belt on and I would recommend removing the blades. Make sure belt is lined up evenly on both pulleys. Reinstall blades [ if removed ] , end panel and dust shoot and you are done. It took me about 30 minutes to install after I figured out how to remove the side panel.

Broken Drive Belt on DW734 Planer

After taking off the top and the side walls, which you need to do to get to the pulleys, this finger buster takes trial and error. I attempted to change this myself, which I spent nearly 45 minutes doing. I then called in a helper. You need a helper because the pulleys are so close together that the belt twists when trying to slip it on. Just not enough thumbs to get alone. When slipping this belt on you must first loop the smaller motor pulley first-these belts are toothed so you can only slip a little on at a time, then while having some one else use their thumbs to keep it on the smaller pulley you slowly turn the belt onto the larger lower cutter pulley. Again a little at a time. Once started you need to rotate and set the other teeth on the belt by turning and pushing. First attempt we pushed on too far and the belt did not line up in the grooves with the other pulleys, so make sure they are set in groves aligned with each other because if not I think the belt would rub and shred itself.

Screwdriver, Socket set, Wrench Set, Pry-bar

    Removed top cover
    Accessed two fixed pulleys
Since both were fixed, no adjustment had to stretch belt turn pulleys (larger with box end wrench) and use pry bar to assist belt on pulley. No clearance between planer adjusting bar and pulley so turning the pulley with wrench with belt between wrench and adjuster bar was "almost" impossible!
Takes 4 hands and multiple tries but successful

Dissassembled planer to find what the problem was. Removed old belt, pulley and key.
Ordered new parts to replace damaged parts.
New parts arrived in a week as promised.
Installed new parts. Had to stretch belt during installation as it was quite tight. Then reassembled the planer. It ran smoothly, and worked as normal on testing.
    Thank you ereplacementparts!

My Dewalt model 733 planer is no longer produced. Since I bought it used, I don't have the manual. Thanks to You Tube and the excellent video by replacement parts, I was able to disassemble and replace the belt. It was quite difficult, but eventually succeeded. Now, my planer is back in action.
