Fit my Penn Pursuit III 4000 LE perfect, it was brand new and there was a clicking when spinning it, the bale would not go up or down either. Found broken teeth on the crosswind gear, replaced, tested and brought in a 22” red drum with no problem.

Not the same as the original
The gear is well made and works fine but the hole for the retaining screw isnt the same as the original. It isnt the same size or recessed like the original so the retaining screw wont fit correctly. It works fine without using the screw but well see how it holds up since it can move around.

Cross wind gear had missing gear teeth

All the local fishing shops said that I would need a certified shop to order and replace parts for my penn battle 4 that my girlfriend bought me. I bought the a penn spinfisher 6 and went home and found this website.
Removed the spool release and drag adjustment, flipped the bail removed the line spool, allowing access to the main shaft. Removed the nut, and removed all the screws from the reel body opening up the gears. (Cleaning out old grease and dirt)From there I had to pull off the reel handle, and slightly lift the main gear, to be able to slide the main shaft in sequence. This opened up the crosswind gear and I was able to switch the old with the new and reverse the sequence to put it all back together. (Applying extra reel grease before fastening the screws back in the reel body. Used it all day today on the gulf of mexico with no problems!
