Tool Type:
Blower
Parts Used:
Ring Piston - 530026413
Crankcase/Shroud Gasket - 530019154
Repair Difficulty:
Hard
Time Spent Repairing:
15-30 minutes
Tools Used:
Screwdriver, Pliers, Socket set, Vice, fine steel wool, plastic scraper
Low compression, Torn gasket
Dismantling the GBI-20:
1. Remove all screws from shroud.
2. Take all of the screws out holding the engine in.
3. Remove the gas tank.
4. Remove the spark plug.
5. Pull the engine out. (It may take some wiggling)
Replacing the piston ring:
1. With the engine out of the case, unscrew the screws holding on the head.
2. Pull off the head.
3. With piston exposed, remove the old piston ring. It doesn't matter if it snaps.
4. GENTLY ease the new ring on. DO NOT let it snap. The break in the ring should line up with a bead on the piston.
5. Clean the piston with a fine steel wool.
6. Put the head in a vice. Take the piston and connecting rod off of the crankshaft. It should just pull off.
7. With the head in the vice, pinch the piston ring and wiggle the piston into the head with as much of the piston out of the cylinder as possible.
8. Reattach the connecting rod to the crankshaft without pulling the piston out of the head. Put the head on the same way it came off and screw it down tight.

Putting on the intake gasket
1. Scrape all remnants of the old gasket off of the metal crankcase with a plastic scraper.
2. Place the gasket on the plastic shroud lining up the holes. Reassemble the engine.

You should be good to go!
