Description:
This is an authentic replacement part sourced from original manufacturer. It is commonly used on gas chainsaws. A centrifugal clutch is a part that uses centrifugal force to connect two concentric shafts, with the driving shaft nested inside the driven shaft. Today’s centrifugal clutches will function even when they shouldn’t, far beyond the point of when they need to be replaced. Keeping an eye on equipment performance will determine when the centrifugal clutch requires attention. This clutch is made out of metal and it is sold individually. Please note the clutch drum, spacer and washer are all sold separately.

To replace this item you would need a screwdriver and pliers.

Repair Difficulty:
Easy
Time Spent Repairing:
Less than 15 minutes
Tools Used:
Screwdriver, Socket set, Wrench Set, Adjustable Wrench, star screwdriver, sockets, thin rope, open end wrench.
Old clutch failed.
I used a socket to loosen the bolts to take off the bar and chain. Then a star screwdriver to take off the cover to get to the spark plug . A socket to take out the plug. Then a small rope was inserted through the plug hole down in the cylinder so it would lock up when removing the old clutch. I used an open end wrench and a pair of vice grips to loosen the old clutch which has to be loosened by turning to the right. I put the new clutch in and tightened it by turning to the left. Took the rope out of the cylinder put the plug back in. Put the cover back on. Put the bar and chain back on. It ran perfectly.

Question: Removing Clutch From PP4620 Chai...

1510363

what should I know to replace the clutch?
Hi You are going to need to lock up the engine while removing the clutch assembly. There is a repair video on here for that, although this first one may apply to a trimmer, the work is about the same on any small 2 stroke clutched engine.

http://www.ereplacementparts.com/article/1771/How_to_Remove_a_Trimmer_Clutch.html

And here is a second video more in tune for what you need regarding a chainsaw sprocket and clutch.

Question: Removing The Clutch

cleanwheel

how to remove the clutch, special tool? or hit it with a punch?
Cleanwheel....NO....there is a Torx 20 or Torx 25 size screw holding it onto the end of the crank. YOU HAVE TO lock up the engine with a piston stop or a clean length of rope, inserted in spark plug hole, then loosen the screw .The screw will STAY in the clutch drum...It is designed that way.
My mistake. I told you how to remove the drum. The clutch itself is threaded onto a threaded section of the crank with right hand threads. Do not damage it when removing it. You can smack one of the ears with a piece of wood and it may come loose. Use lube on it if needed.
