Busted gears in 1985 Little Wonder 30" hedge trimmer

I removed the back plate and two bolt and nuts from the blades retaining sliders. This gave me enough access to remove the old parts. Cleaned out the housing and installed new gears. Re-packed the housing with fresh grease, oiled the gear hole and felt pad. Installed the slider bolts and adjusted the tension. installed the back plate and tested. Gears seemed to fit like a glove and meshed easily. However, I've noticed it makes considerably more gear noise and seems to be straining a little. Hopefully the gears will loosen up after some break-in time.

I had to completely disassemble the trimmer. I had no instructions and I had a few things happen that should not have. I was trying to remove the motor and the field mounting came off and one of the brushes got chipped. So I was able to remove the cluster gear and put in the new one. Then I could see why there were two gears sent along. I changed the smaller ear and tried to turn the assembly to make sure it would work. So I then attached the cutting blades and tried to turn the blades though their motion. It would not complete a cycle. I could not tell why. A friend came by and as both of us looked at it he noticed that the blades were hitting on each other. So I filed the flat sides of both blades, and reinstalled them. I also filed the brush face where it hits the commutator. I put the motor back together and all of the switches. I had trouble getting the cases back together. But I managed and I plugged it in and it worked! I was thrilled because it is the best hedge trimmer out there.
