Description:
A carburetor basically consists of an open pipe through which the air passes into the inlet manifold of the engine.
The pipe is in the form of a Venturi: it narrows in section and then widens again, causing the airflow to increase in speed in the narrowest part.
Below the Venturi is a butterfly valve called the throttle valve — a rotating disc that can be turned end-on to the airflow, so as to hardly restrict the flow at all, or can be rotated so that it (almost) completely blocks the flow of air.
This valve controls the flow of air through the carburetor throat and thus the quantity of air/fuel mixture the system will deliver, thereby regulating engine power and speed. The throttle is connected, usually through a cable or a mechanical linkage of rods and joints.

Fuel is introduced into the air stream through small holes at the narrowest part of the Venturi and at other places where pressure will be lowered when not running on full throttle.

String Trimmer / Edger almost impossible to start and keep running
Following the instructions I found here, I removed and replaced the fuel tank and carburetor. Whole thing took about 20 minutes. Pumped the fuel bulb, Pulled the rope, and there I was, Master of the Universe! Awesome.... Only thing that was remotely tricky was caring for the paper gasket under the carb. Used an exacto knife to slide under the gasket to make sure it didn't tear.

Weedeater would not start and then primer bulb would not prime.
After removing air breather filter, remove fuel lines (best to empty fuel tank first) remove 2 screws and remove carb. Place new carb in place and tighten screws, replace filter and cover.
Install fuel in tank, prime engine start and go to work. Nice to have correct adjustment driver in case a tweaking of adjustment of carb is needed. (I did not have to adjust carb)

Have had good results from parts from replacement parts.

  • Carburetor replacement
The part came at correct time and with instructions was easily replaced. The only drawback was that it didn’t come with any gaskets? Luckily I was able to use the old gaskets. If they broke on removal I would have been up the creek without a paddle. I strongly recommend you tell customers that gaskets DO NOT come with parts. That way they will know to order gaskets separately.
