Description:

This CB430) Makita carbon brush set contains two individual carbon brushes. The set contains genuine Makita replacement parts, and comes packaged in a Makita retail box.
This brush set will fit the Makita tools listed below.

• Worn brushes are often the cause of a poorly running motor
• Replacing brushes can fix an intermittent motor
• New brushes can restore a motor’s electric braking

Carbon motor brushes are one of the most commonly replaced power tool components. Because carbon brushes are wear items, meaning that through friction and use they will gradually wear away, they will eventually require replacement. Worn brushes are common causes of intermittent motor function, reduced electric braking, and reduced motor power. A worn out brush will often be worn down near the wire lead and may be cracked, pitted, or burned. When replacing carbon brushes, be sure to also inspect your armature for burns, cracks, or other damage which indicates a larger motor problem.

The cordless drill would not run. Opened up and found that the brushes were stuck in the brush holder.

Used a screwdriver to remove the end caps on the drill, then removed the old carbon brushes and then pushed the new brushes in and replaced the caps on the drill. The drill works like new.
I do not know why the old brushes swelled up and stuck on this 2004 Makita Cordless Drill?

Drill was no longer reliable and worked only intermitently

I removed the old worn out brushes which was the hardest part of the repair. They would not come out of the copper lined holes, almost as though they had expanded. They seemed to catch on tabs folded down into the brush wells. I pulled one of the wires out of the carbon brush while trying to remove it so I had to completely disassemble the drill. Once I did that the removal of the brush was accomplished but there were a lot of parts that needed to be aligned to get the drill back together correctly. Bearing cups and notches for alignment and trigger and direction change contact points etc. Lots of places that could have gone wrong but I got it together again carefully (don't force anything) when it is right the drill body parts close easily and fully and can be screwed together again. Then the brushes (new) dropped right in. I screwed the brush covers back in place and the drill now works perfectly and has its original power back and works all the time.

Grinder started Running sluggish. Then quit altogether.

1. Pulled off brushes caps
2. Unscrewed brushes covers
3. Pulled out old brushes
4. Installed new brushes
5. Screw in brushes covers
6. Snap on brushes cap
7. Fire up grinder

The speed control trigger switch on my cordless drill only worked intermittently. And when it did work, the drill would only run full speed. I suspected the trigger switch but did not rule out the mo

The two halves of the drill body were held together with approx. eight identical screws. Removing the screws allowed the halves to come apart revealing the interior parts. Following the wiring colors, I disconnected wires from the switch and reconnected them in the same place in the new switch. The new switch fit into place perfectly. I then replaced the brushes by removing the old and putting in the new. Getting the two halves back together proved a bit tricky but with patience and a couple tries it all went back together OK. Replace screws and done! Drill works like new and I saved $150 dollars.

Stuck and worn brushes.

Removed the cap and the brushes. Cleaned the armature, blew out, dropped in the new brushes, replaced the cap, installed the battery, runs great!
