Description:

This is a genuine Hitachi replacement part, they are sold as a pair (2).
Worn brushes are often the cause of a poorly running motor
• Replacing brushes can fix an intermittent motor
• New brushes can restore a motor’s electric braking

Carbon motor brushes are one of the most commonly replaced power tool components. Because carbon brushes are wear items, meaning that through friction and use they will gradually wear away, they will eventually require replacement. Worn brushes are common causes of intermittent motor function, reduced electric braking, and reduced motor power.

A worn out brush will often be worn down near the wire lead and may be cracked, pitted, or burned. When replacing carbon brushes, be sure to also inspect your armature for burns, cracks, or other damage which indicates a larger motor problem.

Basically had a well used , well maintained Hitachi 8.5 " compound miter saw that needed new parts as the old ones were well worn.

Pretty easy disassembly and just made sure not to lose any parts, nuts, or screws. All went well and was done in about 45 minutes. Back up and running like new. 1 Unplug the saw
2 Unscrew the brush caps
3 Take the old brushes out
4 Took the new brushes out of the package and made the repair.
5 Plugged the saw back in.
Took all but 5 minutes for repair.

Unscrewed the brush caps with a screwdriver, removed the old brushes, put in the new brushes, screwed the brush caps back on.

Brushes corroded and fused to the brush holders

Unplugged, used penetrant to loosen then removed holding fasteners (that secured brush holders) pried out brush holders, sanded commutator, cleaned, installed new brush holders and their holding fasteners then brushes, then screwed end piece back on.
Note: The outer end of the brushes need to be aliened into their slots in the holders before you try to screw on the brush caps.
As the new brushes wear in you may get better braking. keep it clean and out of the weather and use the dust bag.
