Carbon motor brushes are one of the most commonly replaced power tool components. Because carbon brushes are wear items, meaning that through friction and use they will gradually wear away, they will eventually require replacement. Worn brushes are common causes of intermittent motor function, reduced electric braking, and reduced motor power. A worn out brush will often be worn down near the wire lead and may be cracked, pitted, or burned. When replacing carbon brushes, be sure to also inspect your armature for burns, cracks, or other damage which indicates a larger motor problem.

Motor had bad brushes.

New brushes were considerably larger than slot they go in. Thought is was going to be a pain in the rear end to make them work. I found if you use a knife sharping stone and hand shape the brushes by taking a little off each side and round the corners while checking the fit often, it was not to difficult at all. I used fine sand paper to finish up the fit.

Both front and rear bearings plus brushes were wore out

Took it apart, took old parts off, put new parts on and then put it back together.

Saw would quit running shortly after plugging in and using it

Well this may help someone with same problem. even though old brushes looked ok I tried changing them but still had same problem! I was ready to try and change the switch. but luckily the problem showed itself. I unplugged the saw and one of the blades on the plug came out. so I now realized when it was first plugged in it would push the blade in enough to make a connection but only until the blade lost contact again . Hope this helps someone lever was a simple c clip installation

Acting up,won't start

Using a screwdriver, remove the brush caps and remove the old brushes. Install the new brushes. Screw the brush caps back on.

Worn brushes

Rigid Worm Drive Saw. Use small torx bit to remove the brush cap covers on either side of the saw. Next use a flat tip screw driver, to unscrew the brush caps. Pull brushes out (one per side) and replace. Put the new ones in the same. That easy.
