They play a key role by conducting electric current maintaining physical contact with the armature. Two carbon brushes with attached lead wires and springs are included per order, please note brush holders are sold separately.

Pliers, Wrench Set, Clamp, pin driver, metric hex wrench

Clamped to align pin with hole in outer sleeve, drove out pin to release stop lever (do not drive fully out so spring and washers stay as a unit)...parts arrived ... clamped go align pin hole in stop lever, drove it in, worked to get pin centered. Tested great
Replaced missing bolt.
Replaced brushes under side covers.
Replaced scraping blade due to wear. Done

Brushes bad, worn cord protector

Screwdriver, Wrench Set, Allen wrench

Remove the cap covers
Remove the brush caps
Remove the worn brushes
Install the new brushes
Remove the screws from the handle, then separated them
Remove the cord clamp
Disconnect the cord wires from the switch
Remove the old cord protector and slide the new one onto the cord
Connect the wires the cord wires to the switch
Attach the cord clamp
Assemble the handle halves

Hammer stopped working

Unscrew the brush caps on each side of the hammer, remove the old brushes, then install the new ones, then replace brush caps.
