I took the still apart and realize that the brushes have welded themselves to the brush casing. As I tried to remove the brush it cracked the brush housing. I then ordered new brushes new springs and the brush holder and installed everything after carefully brushing down all the parts and cleaning everything. Put it all together and it works fine

Handle of case broke off and with it, broke brush ring holding contact brushes to commutator.

Take case apart and separate into 4 parts.
Pull commutator out of end bearing to access brush ring.
Remove brush ring and replace with new.
    Install commutator.
Install brushes in brush ring and attach holding springs
    Put case parts together
The handle broke off because plastic mountings broke. Instead of getting new handle parts, I improvised and used an automotive glue to attach handle parts. Vibration initially broke handle, but gluing is more resistant to breakage. However, will be extremely hard to take apart if needed.
the tool is over 10 yrs old already. I'm sure it will last me a long time.

I bought a Dewalt cordless circular saw at a thrift store for $5. The trigger was burned out.

    Joel - May 31, 2017
    Tool Type

    Circular Saw

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    1-2 hours

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, Pliers

I took the saw apart. This took the most time since I could find no instructions on how to take it apart. Least obvious issue was that there was a retainer ring on the saw side of the motor shaft that allowed me to take of the saw cover and safety cover. As I went along, I ordered parts that I needed. Especially since I lost one of the brush springs and broke the brush ring! I wish I would have figured out all the parts I needed first so I could save money on shipping! Toughest problem was that I could not find any replacement parts for the burned out switch - I had to take the switch apart and solder the terminals. Good news is that I used the saw yesterday to cut wood!
