My brew basket has a spring and a round piece underneath that has popped off. Will it still work without that spring and round piece?

The brew basket has a spring loaded 'stopper' on the bottom of the basket. The stem of the stopper has a thin plastic retainer gasket that loosened and fell off when cleaned. Once it fell off it was lost down the drain. This retaining ring held the basket stopper from falling through. As the retaining gasket part is not sold, the entire brew basket had to be replaced.
