Socket set, Vice grips

I put blocks under the front of the tractor, block to back wheels so it would not move. lowered the deck as far as it would go. Removed the blade. Removed the four bolts holding the blade spindle from the deck.
Removed the worn blade spindle and placed the new one in its place. Used the self threading bolts to mount the new blade spindle. I would thread the bolts in a little and back them out , then kept doing this until the spindle and bolts were tight. Placed the belt back on the blade spindle. Then installed the blade.

Grinding noise, and deck vibration

Lawn Tractor

Difficulty

Easy

Time

15-30 minutes

Tools Used

, hoist, impact wrench

Raised mower with hoist, loosened deck belt, removed blade, removed mounting bolts for spindle, mounted new spindle, adjust belt and deck level. Job done in twenty minutes. New spindle eliminated noisey bearings, and leveling deck eliminated deck vibration. Note: Before installing new spindle, mounting holes were "started" by using a 5/16 18tpi tap. Just enough to start the new mounting bolts. Quick, easy job, if you have, and use, the right tools.
