This Gasket comes directly for KitchenAid. This replacement part is made of rubber. The gasket fits on top of the blade assembly to then make a seal with the blender jar. This part should be replaced if it becomes hard, torn, or no longer makes a good seal and leaks. This part is commonly replaced with part #9704291 Blade assembly. Part is simply replaced by unscrewing the collar, removing the blade assembly, remove the old gasket, install the new gasket and then reassemble.

The instructions were clear: that I should use a screwdriver to ease off the broken coupling piece before screwing the new one in place. The instructions stated that it typically took 3 - 4 attempts. My experience was different and I was afraid I would break something in 'easing' it off. It took many attempts and in the end, I used pliers to help. The screwdriver caused the old coupling to break and was beginning to scratch the surface of the base. It did come off eventually and the new part was installed easily. The blender works well now, with no leaking. I'm very pleased.
