The blade guard assembly is secured over the blade to protect user from dust and trimmings as well as the blade itself. Always keep the removable blade guard down over the saw blade for through-sawing cuts. This is a complete assembly which includes the clear plastic guard and the metal bracket that secures it to the frame, please note the hardware to secure it is sold separately.

Removed old blade guard assembly and installed new one.
Pretty simple. Unplug saw, lower blade all the way down or remove blade to make it easy to get to assembly. Remove throat guard. Remove two set screws which hold blade guard assembly in place. This is also know. As the “riving knife” assembly. Once removed, put new assembly in place and use same steps in reverse. Very simple removal and install.
