The saw blade is moving up and down easily again. Replaced the old gears.
The part was not an exact duplicate of the old one. they are metal rather than plastic which is better. After many years of use the teeth were breaking off the old gears. The holes through the stem of the new gears were at 90 degrees to each other rather than 180 degrees so the old machine bolts were too long, but I had a couple in my parts bucket that worked and the saw blade is moving up and down like it should. No parts left over.

Great Replacement 4 Original Plastic Gear
Title says it all. Details are a little different. Orig had one hole drilled for mounting. Replacement has two. Needed to get replacement screw because drilled holes did not go completely through like orig. But, I am pleased with metal replacement part. It will not wear as quickly as plastic.

    Exact part- better than original!
My portable table saw used plastic gears to raise and lower the blade. When they inevitably broke, I purchased replacement gears from eReplacementParts.com. I was delighted to see the replacement parts were metal instead of plastic and fit perfectly.

    Easy repair better quality
If the original part was metal I wouldn’t of needed this gear. But it fit perfectly good quality screws should be supplied. Caused a delay in repair waiting on them

The blade would not go up or down

    Larry - December 24, 2015

I had to cut out the old height adjustment bolt out because I could not get to move..
1.To make this easy remove the saw from the stand and turn the saw upside down.
2.Remove the blade and till the blade to 45 degrees. This makes it easy to work on height bolt assembly and height worm.
3.Remove the wheel then remove the bolts and height regulating bolt assembly.
    4. I had to remove the anchor block. then remove the height worm.
Remember where the washers go on the height adjust bolt so when you reinstall it in the correct place.
    good luck.

The gears to raise an lower a porter cable table saw are plastic. Over time the plastic teeth broke. The replacements are cast metal which is a big improvement. Be sure to replace both gears, not just the one that broke. The gear pattern is different than the stock gear so you need both new ones for replacement to work. Keep track of the thrust washers because as you take apart gears, washers could fall inside saw. I laid the saw on its side so I could get at it through the bottom. Take pictures as you go

If I had just performed some preventive maintenance, I may not have had to repair the table saw. I do feel better about having metal bevel gears instead of the original plastic gears. The only problem I had was the motor was all the way up and didn't want to move so I could get the second shaft out easily.
