    Ralph - March 25, 2021
    Tool Type

    Band Saw

    Difficulty

    Hard

    Time

    30-60 minutes

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, Wrench Set, hex wrench

    1: Remove covering over motor
2:Remove worn belt by removing lower pully and lowering motor
3: Replace and align lower pully with upper pully
5: Tension belt by raising motor

The motor is heavy and difficult to lift to get the proper tension. Took another person to assist.

The drive belt on the bandsaw was worn out.

    Charles - April 29, 2020
    Tool Type

    Band Saw

    Difficulty

    Hard

    Time

    1-2 hours

    Tools Used

Socket set, Wrench Set, car jack; Allen wrench

    1. I had to use an end wrench and a socket wrench to loosen the bolts mounting the motor to a flange. This allowed the motor to slip down the tracks as far as it would go.
    2. The electric motor was too heavy to lift by myself so I had to use a car jack to lift it high enough to get the belt on the motor pulley.
    3. Once the belt was around both pulleys I lowered the motor, but this left the end opposite the driveshaft to sag down, and rotating the pulleys would throw the belt off.
    4. I then had to have my wife help push down on the front of the motor to apply proper tension to the belt, while I used a piece of lumber to lift the back end to keep the motor level.
    5. I then was able to tighten the mounting bolts to hold it in place.
    6. The final step was advancing the pulley opposite the motor forward until the belt was straight and the two pulleys were coplanar.
    7. What made the job difficult was the limited and cramped space to work in the motor housing and the weight of the motor. It really is a two-person job.

Pulley on drive shaft broke loose

    David - December 13, 2018
    Tool Type

    Band Saw

    Difficulty

    Easy

    Time

    30-60 minutes

    Tools Used

Socket set, Wrench Set, Hex head tool

Powermatic bandsaw was dangerously over stressed attempting to reduce wet wood to a manageable size for turning on a lathe. The set screws sheered, pulley on lower wheel vibrated loose and shredded the drive belt. Repair was easily accomplished by installing new pulley and new drive belt.
