Product Description ?

This is an Genuine Manufacturer Authorized replacement part used on Delta Band Saws. Ball bearings are used to reduce friction between rotating parts. The balls or rollers take the load and spin, distributing the weight evenly while the minimal contact area of the ball reduces friction. This reduces wear on the tool and allows it to run smoothly. Bearings experience constant wear when the tool is in operation from pressure, heat, vibration and friction. Because of this, many Bearings need periodic maintenance or replacement.

I ordered it on the 14th of August. It was shipped the 16th. Seems to be lost in the mail...the tracking info is vague. It is the 29th. Perhaps a small package got lost?

Replacement of upper and lower blade backer bearings

    John - February 10, 2016
👍 11 of 11 people found this instruction helpful
    Tool Type

    Band Saw

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    30-60 minutes

    Tools Used

    , Hex keys; feeler gauge

All screws require hex keys. The blade needs to be removed first. The upper bearing is easy to access. Simply remove the central retaining screw, remove the old bearing from the spindle, and replace with the new bearing. If it looks like the blade will not hit against the outer aspect of the bearing face, pull the hexagon shaped spindle holder out and rotate it around until the bearing is in the right place. Once you are satisfied, replace the retaining screw.
The lower bearing requires that the table be removed from the trunion assembly. After that, it helps to lubricate the bearing and cool block adjustment screws because they have to be turned a lot. Remove the screw in the end of the spindle. Turn the bearing and cool block screws until you can separate the spacer that fits over the bearing spindle. Eventually, you can slide out the old bearing and slide in the new bearing. Return the adjustment screws to mid-position and replace the retaining screw (don't forget it must pass through the screw slide guide first). Replace the table and blade. Obviously, the bearings will need to be adjusted to a proper distance behind the blade. Most sources recommend 15 one-hundredths of an inch, but the 14 one-hundredths blade on my feeler gauge works just fine. If this looks confusing, it really helps to review the expanded parts diagram in the manual before getting started.

Replaced upper and lower blade thrust bearings

    Tool Type

    Band Saw

    Difficulty

    Easy

    Time

    15-30 minutes

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, allen wrench

Remove blade. Upper bearing: use allen wrench to remove and replace bearing.
Lower bearing: Loosen the set screws in the set collars on each adjustment screw. Unscrew the adjustment screws from the lower blade guide assembly. It isn't necessary to completely remove the adjustment screws, just slide them far enough to access the left machine screw in the steel rail the lower blade glide slides on. Move the lower blade guide to remove the machine screws in the in steel rail. With the lower blade guide removed, now is the time to clean and lubricate the blade guide on the rail and the adjustment screws. Remove the screw from the adjusting link on the end of the bearing shaft. Pull out the bearing shaft to enable replacing the bearing. Reassemble all parts and reinstall on saw.

Found parts on EReplacement - pretty easily. Couldn't believe they still had them available for a 1947 model Delta band saw! A little complex to disassemble the table, clean it out, lubricate parts, file down some and just plain clean the thing out. But the parts arrived in two days after ordering, and I was able to rock and roll pretty quickly. The machine works so precisely again with the change of bearings, I can do brain surgery with it.

The blade suport bearings[Top and Bottom] were making a slight noise indicating wear

    Jerry - February 7, 2016
👍 1 of 1 people found this instruction helpful
    Tool Type

    Band Saw

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    1-2 hours

    Tools Used

Adjustable Wrench, Set of Allen wrenches

Remove the band saw blade. The top one is easily replaced. The bottom one requires: removing the adjustment assembly, loosening both table tilt knobs to make it possible to pull one half of the two piece shaft out from the back thru the space lifting the table up allows. Then reassembling. My saw is a Model 203 made in the USA. OEM bearing for this should have been made in Japan, USA or France. Japan was indicated on the existing bearings. I asked where these were made and the answer I received were these were Delta parts. I was sent ones that were marked made in China and bagged as original Delta equipment. This would have conformed to when manufacturing was switched overseas for later models. Cost was not an issue for me, so the test will be how well they worked and hold up. Having done business with this company before I'm trusting their expertize.

I had to figure out how to replace these myself since I could find no information on the subject. I expect the next time I do this it will be under 30 minutes.
