The bearing broke apart and the orbital sander head separated from the sander.
The bearing outer chase lodged in the bearing cap housing, making it impossible to just replace the bearing. Ordered a new bearing and bearing cap. Removed screws from the sander pad head and replaced cap and bearing. Re-installed on shaft. This was a better option than replacing the sander, prevented a $50 sander from going into the trash bin with $8 in parts. I wasn't even aware the parts were available until I looked on eReplacementParts.com. Thanks eReplacementParts.com, you are now the first place I visit when something breaks.

Bearing on orbital sander came apart.
Removed old ball bearing and the brake skirt. Using a bearing press I installed the new ball bearing into the bearing cap then replaced the brake skirt. I then put everything back together with the new parts . Sander now works great.
