This is an authentic Makita replacement part that has been sourced from the original manufacturer to be used with finishing sanders. The base can be used as a direct replacement of the original base that was installed when the sander was new. Over time the sanding pad can be worn at the connection points and will need to be replaced. To complete this you pair you may need a standard and Philip's screwdriver, a small pick, mallet, and a hex socket set to remove the bearing. This item is sold individually.

The old countersunk head screw was difficult to remove after years of being in place. I had ordered a replacement along with a replacement base anticipating that difficulty. The longest part of the repair was removing the old screw. I used penetrating oil to loosen the threads over a couple of days but that didn't work. Eventually, I drilled a small hole in the screw head and used a screw removal bit (extractor bit) to back it out. That gave much more leverage than a Philips head screw driver which stripped the top.
After that, it was easy. Remove the parts held on by the screw, replace parts, and attach new base. Follow instructions provided on website. They are very detailed.
The base plate where the bearing sits was shredded to pieces.
