Product Information
Description:
This is a Genuine Manufacturer Approved replacement part used on Toro Snowthrowers. This Ball Bearing has multiple applications in the Snowthrowers. This part is made out of Metal and it is Sold Individually. Ball Bearings are used to reduce friction between rotating parts. The balls or rollers take the load and spin, distributing the weight evenly while the minimal contact area of the ball reduces friction. This reduces wear on the tool and allows it to run smoothly. Bearings experience constant wear when the tool is in operation from pressure, heat, vibration and friction. Because of this, many Bearings need periodic maintenance or replacement.

To replace this Bearing you would need a Screwdriver and a Set of Wrenches.

Blade spindle bearings noisy on two of three blades, sounded like grinding sand
I swap/sharpen blades every 3rd or 4th mowing, spin each to assess bearing condition. The lawn is 3 acres. Bearing life appears affected by water intrusion from the use of deck washout fittings. Even when running blades for 5+ minutes after washing to dry bearings. Mower is 7 years old zero-turn Toro.
1. Remove mower deck from mower
2. Remove belt covers from deck
3. Remove blades
4. Remove nut and pulley from two bad spindles, need use pipe wrench on shaft lower end, socket on nut
5. Remove bolts attaching aluminum spindle assemblies to mower deck, use a liquid wrench to loosen corroded/galled threads, alternately loosen and tighten bolts to work them free. Bolts are hardened and cannot be drilled out so be careful not to over-torque and break bolt (which thread into housing). Keep spare bolts on hand, avoid reuse as fatigue failure definite possibility.
6. Take spindle assemblies and replacement bearings, bearing covers, shafts, spacers to local mechanic to have old bearings removed and new bearings, shafts pressed in
7. Reinstall spindle assemblies on mower deck, use new bolts if possible
8. Reinstall pulleys and torque retaining nuts, use pipe wrench and socket as above.
9. Reinstall drive belt and belt covers
10. Reinstall blades
11. Reattach mower deck to the mower.
Had to replace one spindle housing assembly as bearing had turned in it and worn aluminum housing. Fortunately I keep a spare on hand, otherwise, 3 to 5 day delay waiting for the new housing to arrive.

Deck spindle bearings operating noisy.
1. Removed deck from Toro Z4200.
2. Impacted wrenched off spindle pulley nuts, removed pulleys.
3. Stood deck on it’s side and impact wrenched off the blades and tapped out spindle shafts.
4. Using drift punch and hammer knocked out both bearings from each of the spindle housing,
Spacers in between bearings might break due to the material made of.
5. Cleaned up inside of spindle housing, applied never seize compound to bearing bores,
Install one bearing, then a new spacer then second bearing. Might need to support the
spacer with the blade’s shaft to center it while installing second bearing in the spindle
housing. Used drift punch and hammer carefully on outer race to install bearings. Bearings
should be touching the spacer. You can try use an old bearing to place on the new bearing
to tap in place with hammer.
6. Install shaft, blade and pulley.
7. After reinstalling all components spin the rotating assembly hand and the rotation should be
smooth with no binding, like free-wheeling. If not recheck if parts are binding/touching the
housing in any way or a clearence problem between bearings. The metal spacer is needed
to take the tightening load off the bearings in the spindle housing.
8. Reinstall deck to mower and test.

  • Backyard mechanic.
I wish that I would have known that there were two bearings that were needed to repair my mower (one at the pulley and one at the bottom for the blade). I mowed after fixing it the first only to find out that both sets were bad.

The bearings were exactly what I needed
I installed the bearings this afternoon and should be back to mowing tomorrow
