1. Removed generator end cover by removing two bolts.
2. Removed two bolts retaining voltage regulator.
3. Disconnect regulator from wiring harness.
4. Plug in new regulator.
5. Install regulator retaining bolts.
6. Install end cover and bolts.

No voltage from generator

Remove two bolts to remove the rear cover of the generator. Two bolts to remove the voltage regulator. Disconnect one wiring harness connector and two quickslides. Reverse procedures for mounting the new VR on the generator. Started the motor, and viola ! Full voltage ! Very easy!

Remove back cover on generator assembly (opp. engine end), used multimeter (set on Ohms or Continuity) to check for continuity on all winding's and inspect brushes for wear, polish copper slip rings on rotor with Scotch Brite pad. Removed 2 bolts that hold automatic voltage regulator (AVR) in place, disconnect white plastic connector, removed red and black wires from brush holder assembly (note where the red and blacks wire were located, they have go back the same way). Place red and black wires from new AVR on new brush holder assembly (make sure to put them in same location as old wires), plug in the white plastic connector, bolt new AVR to generator, remove old brush holder assembly (1 bolt) and install new brush holder assembly. Install the back cover, crank engine and check voltage at receptacles with multimeter (set to VAC).

All that was needed was an 11/32 socket an extension and a ratchet. Two bolts to remove the cover. Two bolts that held on the regulator and in plug it from the harness and the brushes. Two bolts to remove the brushes. Replaced in reverse order.

Generator wouldn't put out enough volts

Put 2 receptacles in, changed the AVR, cleaned the carb, it needs replacing, the needle valve is no good, it want put out but a 95 volts on a 120 plug and about 195 on the 220 plug

Simple. Pulled cover off front of generator, 2 screws, unplugged harness, removed 2 mtg bolts. Assem new reg. 2 bolts & plugged in harness. Reassembled cover. Started gen, working fine.
