How to Replace the Blade on a Porter Cable Biscuit/Plate Joiner

Finish Nailer Repair - Replacing the Driver Guide (Ridgid Part # 79004001022)
Replacing the blade in your Porter Cable biscuit joiner is mostly straight-forward, but there are a few little things, such as the lock pin and chip deflector that can complicate the repair.
This simple repair should only take about 15 minutes, and you can easily complete it at home with a screwdriver and an Allen wrench.
Before you begin any repair, be sure to get the right parts for your Porter Cable tools.
Replacing the Blade

1. Remove the bottom plate

Loosen the four screws in the bottom plate. You do not need to remove them as the plate uses tapered holes and will just slide right off.

Remove the bottom plate to gain access to the blade.

2. Remove the blade

Depress the lock pin on the top of the biscuit joiner. This prevents the blade from spinning so you can remove it.

While holding the lock pin down, use an Allen wrench to remove the blade.

3. Adjust the chip deflector as needed

Your biscuit joiner has an adjustable chip deflector that you can adjust for a normal sized blade or a smaller face frame blade.

If you will use a normal size blade, the chip deflector should look like it does above. If you will use a smaller blade, you will need to pull the engine forward then move the chip deflector to the forward position, like this:

4. Install the new blade

Check for the arrow on your new blade and make sure you install the blade so the arrow is facing the same direction as the arrow on your biscuit joiner.

Slide the blade into place and add the washer and bolt. Depress the lock pin and tighten the bolt.

5. Reinstall the bottom plate

Slide the bottom plate back into position and tighten the screws.
