The carburetor mixes fuel and air in the perfect ratio for combustion. The carburetor has many tiny passages that route fuel through it. If dirt or corrosion plugs these passages, the engine will run poorly (or not start at all). A carburetor can be cleaned and rebuilt, but often, it is faster and less expensive to simply replace it.
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE CARBURETOR 1. Open the air filter cover.
a. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the side of the air filter cover.
b. Carefully pry the air filter cover away from the engine to disengage the locking tab.
c. Open the air filter cover.
2. Remove the carburetor.
a. Remove the two screws securing the air filter housing and the carburetor to the engine.
b. Remove the air filter housing.
c. Disconnect the throttle cable from the carburetor.
d. Use long-nosed pliers to disconnect the two fuel lines from the carburetor. (Note the position of the fuel lines for reassembly.)
e. Remove the carburetor from the trimmer.
INSTALLING THE NEW CARBURETOR
3. Install the carburetor.
a. Install the fuel lines onto the new carburetor (in the same position as the originals.
b. Connect the throttle cable to the new carburetor.
c. Secure the carburetor and the air filter housing to the engine with the two screws.
d. Close the air filter cover.
