The fuel tank assembly consists of the tank, a fuel cap, the fuel lines, a fuel filter, and the screws needed to secure the tank to the trimmer. The most common problem with the fuel tank is fuel leaking where the fuel lines enter the tank. The flexible fuel lines form their own seal where they pass through the tank. Over time, the lines can harden and crack. When this hardening occurs, the lines will longer seal tightly to the tank, and a leak will be created. If the trimmer is dropped (or falls over during storage), it is not uncommon for the fuel tank to become cracked. Fuel leaking from the fuel tank is a very dangerous problem and should be corrected before the trimmer is used.
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE FUEL TANK 1. Remove the fuel tank.
a. Remove any excess fuel from the fuel tank.
b. Remove the two screws securing the fuel tank to the trimmer.
c. Pull the fuel tank away from the engine.
d. Use long-nosed pliers to disconnect the two fuel lines from the carburetor. (Note the location of the fuel lines for reassembly.)
INSTALLING THE NEW FUEL TANK
2. Install the fuel tank.
a. Connect the two fuel lines (on the new fuel tank) to the carburetor (in the same position as the original fuel lines).
b. Install the new fuel tank onto the trimmer.
c. Secure the fuel tank with the two screws.
