How to Replace the Air Filter on a Weed Eater Blower

Finish Nailer Repair - Replacing the Driver Guide (Ridgid Part # 79004001022)
weed eater blower air filter

The air filter removes any dirt, dust or other debris before they can enter the engine. This debris can easily plug the carburetor, making the blower run poorly or not start at all. If dirt gets into the engine, serious damage can occur. The air filter should be inspected often, and replaced at least once per year (or more often, as needed).

Let's get started.

REMOVING THE AIR FILTER   1. Remove the air filter.

a. Depress the tab on the side of the air filter cover to disengage the catch.

b. Pivot the air filter cover away from the air filter base.

c. Remove the air filter cover from the blower.

d. Remove the air filter from the base.

INSTALLING THE NEW AIR FILTER

  2. Oil the air filter.

a. Place the new air filter into a small plastic bag.

b. Pour a small amount of two-cycle engine oil into the plastic bag with the air filter.

c. Work the oil into the new air filter (until the filter is evenly coated).

d. Remove the oiled air filter from the plastic bag.

e. Place the oiled air filter onto a clean shop towel and use the top of the towel to absorb the excess oil from the filter.

  3. Install the air filter.

a. Install the new air filter into the air filter base.

REASSEMBLING THE UNIT

  4. Reinstall the air filter cover.

a. Align the hinge-tab on the air filter cover with the hinge-slot on the air filter base.

b. Pivot the air filter cover into position (over the air filter) and press the cover firmly against the base to engage the locking tab.
