Does your mower leave clippings all over the lawn? If so, you might need a new fan. The fan mounts just above the blade on the underside of your mower. The fan produces air movement to keep the clippings moving, which helps to throw them into the bag or keep them suspended so they can be properly mulched. The fan will wear down over time from typical use. It will wear down much faster if the mower is routinely used in a dusty environment. The fan can be broken by debris such as rocks, or if a toy or a sprinkler head is accidentally run over. The fan should be periodically inspected to make sure it is in good condition.
Let's get started.
REMOVING THE FAN 1. Remove the fan.
a. Tip the mower on its side.
b. Wedge a piece of scrap wood between the blade and the mower deck to prevent the blade from rotating.
c. Use a wrench to remove the nut that secures the blade.
d. Remove the spacer.
e. Remove the blade insulator.
f. Remove the blade.
g. Remove the fan. (Be careful not to lose the spacer that sits behind the fan.)
